Sonny Liston vs. Cassius Clay 1964 Â Heavyweight Championship Poster & Â Press Kit.
Poster, August 1991, 14" x 22", February 25, 1964, Miami Beach, FL. The World Heavyweight Championship between "Champion Sonny Liston" and "Challenger Cassius Clay" was held at the Fox Theatre. The poster features promotional text including - "No Home TV - See It Exclusively In This Area On Closed Circuit Big Screen Theatre TV - Reserved Seat Tickets At Box Office." Some foxing and staining and evidence of prior mounting on verso.
Closed circuit television kit, housed in a folder with a cover that has "Heavyweight Championship of the World" emblazoned in red with images of both fighters. The inside is packed with different inserts from 1964 with detailed information on the fighters likely for use on closed-circuit TV. Best of all might be the template for producing closed circuit television tickets and "How To Approach Your Local Sports Editor."
The first of two fights between Liston and Clay for boxing's World Heavyweight Championship was among the most anticipated, watched and controversial fights in the sport's history. "Sports Illustrated" named this match (in which Clay won the Championship over Liston) as the fourth greatest sports moment of the 20th Century.
