Description
Turin: Jean-Baptiste Maggi, 1845.
A rare work, complete and never sold at auction (RBH), consisting of 4 large lithographic maps engraved by Cordero with the topography of the entire Alpine arc and considered the most significant cartographic work of the Italian pre-unification period of the 19th century. It is the result of the survey work of the Royal Topographical Office in Turin, including the measurement of the 45° parallel passing through northern Italy. The most striking result lies in the depiction of the profiles of the mountains represented in a proportionate manner in their extension and references to geographical coordinates (Viviano Giampiero., La Corografia delle Alpi dal Mediterraneo all'Adriatico del 1845, in Ambiente Societá Territorio. editoriale dell'AIIG , 2013).
All within contemporary marbled case with printed label and title. (1
