Pre-Columbian, Mochica 1, North Coast Peru, ca. 100 BCE – 100 CE. Terracotta vessel depicting a fortress on three levels. Lower Level having two jaguars sitting in "Presentation Position," on front wall of fortress in high relief; side walls depicting a barracuda type of ferocious game fish, rear wall depicts a giant manta. Second Level features two Warriors guarding the front steps to the Castle, while side walls have rows of game fish painted cream on red background; Third Level shows a courtyard enclosure with a Lord / Ruler holding court and a person pleading his/her case. A very rare scene of great art historical purpose! 7"H x 8"W.
