first half 19th century, 55 x 48 cm, North West Persia, Azerbaijan

A Khamseh Shahsavan sumakh bag face, formerly part of a khorjin. In the midnight blue field, a Memling gul is surrounded by S-forms; the white border is adorned with large Talish rosettes. Particularly beautiful in terms of drawing and palette, this example first belonged to the Bach Collection and then found its way into the Maul Collection via Frauenknecht. â€â€œ Good condition, mounted onto canvas.
