FULL CONTEMPORARY SHEEP with two pewter or possibly silver catches and clasps, engraved on the inside “The gift of I.W. 1693”, pewter cornerpieces and central medallion on each cover, framed with decorative rolls, edges gilt (small rivet missing from a catch, ends and spine a bit worn, gilt worn from covers, few small scorch marks on free endpaper). Provenance: several lineage inscriptions (“Miss Ann Burnley her book 1746” and “Stephen Bonnett born 1762”).

In a rare 17th contemporary gift binding with the actual date engraved on the clasps just one year after publication.
