Description
Of quintessential form, finely wrought from a single plate of steel. The slightly domed skull with median ridge, curving gently inward and then flaring at the nape, with characteristic opening for the face displaying rounded edges and expanding where it meets the lower edge, and displaying a number of punched holes which retained the lining. Struck at the left nape with an unidentified armorers mark which appears to be a leafy stalk terminating in a flower. Includes a thorough and well-reasoned analysis prepared by noted authority Christopher Dobson, formerly Master Armourer to the Royal Armouries, UK. Prepared on November 17, 2010, dates the helmet, details its form and modifications and authenticates its age, as well as fixing its value at the time of the analysis. C. 1430-1440.
