**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, South Coast of Peru, Nazca culture, ca. 200 to 400 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessel in the shape of a charming avian creature, perhaps a quail, with brown and tan pigment accented by white streaks. The plump bird features tab-shaped wings protruding from the sides as well as a fan-shaped tail, with impressed eyes and a petite beak comprising the visage. An arching handle and conical spout rise from the top of the body, and the base is rounded but relatively stable. A whistle behind the handle no longer functions. Size: 7.625" L x 5" W x 6.7" H (19.4 cm x 12.7 cm x 17 cm)

Professional repair and restoration to bead, spout, and tail, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and light fading to original pigment, otherwise very good. Great preservation to avian form. Previous inventory labels beneath base.
