Ca. 1767 AD. A cutlass specially made for the Navy from the American Revolution and Napoleonic wars, brass D-shaped hilt with ribbed handle, stamped with manufacturer mark on knuckle guard and "A B I A T" on the cross guard. The blade is engraved on both sides with crescent, star, and grenadier on ricasso. Ref: LES SABRES PORTES PAR L’ARMEE FRANCAISE (French Edition), p. # 231, plate # 404.
