Description
A Carved wooden handle with two janus mask like faces and a golden honey colored wood with deep patina from handling. The heads are defined by slanted, slit-form eyes and finely striated coiffures. Kedie are important ceremonial figures used by village leaders to assist in the judgment of others' actions, and are kept in special shrines when not in use. The sculpture measures 10 inches long. Dan peoples, Ivory Coast, West Africa. Provenance: A Private New Jersey collection.
