An antique 1860s CDV by J. E. Tilton & Co., Manufacturers & Importers of Photographs Albums & Cartes De Visite, Boston, Photographed by Black. Photograph of a full length portrait of Queen Victoria standing, facing three-quarters to the right. She is depicted wearing a crown and dark velvet dress with a sash. Queen Victoria wrote about the sitting for Clifford in her journal: "photographed for the Queen of Spain by Mr. Clifford. He brought me one of [her portraits], taken by him" (14 November 1861). The image was a requested present by Queen Isabel II de España. The artist, Charles Clifford, 1820 - 1863, was a Welsh photographer based mainly in Spain. Known mostly for his daguerreotype, calotype and wet plate collodion images, he was, one of the leading photographers of his day in Spain.
