Description
Several artists; (MEIKA GASSAKU) JIGUCHI GAFU, "Jiguchi's Sketchbook, a Collaboration" (Tokyo: Hakubunkan, c.1890) 9 x 5 7/8 in., in traditional Japanese fukurotoji binding: tan paper cover embossed with archaic dragons and cloud forms, applied printed title label; with an archival style cardstock folder. Includes images originally included in several other books. British Museum copy, dated 1881, corresponds with this exactly in terms of flaws in the printing blocks and colophon, but not in the order of images. Other sources date the book to 1894.

Mr. Katzoff's collection of hand-printed Japanese books was the subject of an exhibition, "Gathering Jewels," at the Walters Art Museum in 2004. Proceeds from the sale will go to the Walters.
