Thomas Herbert is recorded in Loomes as being Clockmaker to the King and was part of the Clockmakers Company from 1676-1708. In 1703 he petitioned the Queen for 'payment of arrears of monies owed for restoration the late King's clocks in 170-102 and received £79.'
As maker to the King it is possible that the insignia on the current lot is for William III (1689-1702), otherwise known as William of Orange.
