Dial: White enamel, black Roman numeral hour markers, black outer minute track with 5 minute markers, diamond set hands with foliate decoration
Case: Finely pierced and engraved inner with engraved Green Man, signed inner cap, exceptional pierced and engraved repoussé middle case depicting the Adoration of the Magi, diamond release button, outer studded shagreen case with exhibition glass

Jan Berninck is recorded as working in Amsterdam from circa 1720 to 1750. The current lot features a stunning repousse case depicting the Adoration of the Magi. A popular theme, the Adoration of the Magi relates to the gospel of Matthew 2:11 in the Bible where the newly born Jesus is presented with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh by the three kings Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar. In this particular example the repousse is in beautiful condition and has a very high relief to it which is typical of fine continental work. Another indicative feature of continental work is when the repousse is on two levels as with the current lot.
