Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979) was a Ukrainian-French artist and designer who is best known for her contributions to the development of the Orphism art movement, a style characterized by its use of vibrant colors and geometric shapes.
Delaunay was born in Ukraine and studied art in Germany before moving to Paris in 1905. In Paris, she met her future husband, the painter Robert Delaunay, and together they developed the Orphism style. Sonia Delaunay's work in this style often featured bold geometric patterns and bright, contrasting colors.
In addition to her work as a painter, Delaunay was also an accomplished designer, creating textiles, clothing, and costumes. She believed that art should not be limited to the canvas, and sought to bring the principles of abstraction and color theory to everyday objects.
Throughout her career, Delaunay exhibited her work in galleries and museums throughout Europe and the United States, and was recognized as a pioneering artist in the field of abstract art and design. Today, her work can be found in the collections of major museums around the world.
