Description
Ca 300 to 400 AD. A stone (schist) carving of a child, depicting a seated young Buddha with wonderful detailed wavy hair, thicker on the right side, and highly defined facial features. He is shown wearing a show-sleeve tunic-type garment, his hands resting on his knees. He appears to be holding fruit or bread. Feet crossed beneath him, large ankle bracelets. Dimensions: 9-1/4" H. + custom mount. Provenance: Hail-Caesar New Empire Antiquities Auction, 2006 acquired by Dr. Henry Cherrick, a professor and dean at UCLA School of dentistry who pioneered government programs promoting dental care in HIV/AIDs patients. He was an avid collector of fine art and antiquities and died at the age of 84 in 2023. Original documents included.
