Virginia T. Wylie (American, 1918-1999) Painting Abstract Color Field. Oil on canvas painting. Signed lower right V. Wiley also signed on reverse V. Wiley and dated 8/4/54. Measures 32 inches high, 42 inches wide. Acquired from the family's estate in Amagansett Long Island New York. Frame measures 33 inches high, 43.2 inches wide. In good condition.
Virginia Todd Wylie was an American painter and printmaker, born in 1918 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She attended the Art Institute of Chicago and later moved to New York City to continue her studies at the Art Students League. Wylie was known for her abstract expressionist paintings and prints, often inspired by the natural world. She worked in a variety of mediums including oil paint, watercolor, lithography, and etching. Wylie's work has been exhibited widely in the United States, including at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Museum of Modern Art. She was also a member of the National Association of Women Artists. Wylie passed away in 1999 in New York City, leaving behind a significant legacy as a pioneering female artist in the abstract expressionist movement.
