Description
Sam Newton (American, 1948-) Title - River Moonlight. Oil on canvas Florida Highway painting. Signed lower left, S. Newton. The borders of the painting had slight paint loss from where the painting had adhered to the frame, consequently when removed from the frame it required inpainting around the edges of the painting. We replaced the frame with a Pecky Cypress frame of the period which enhances the work. Painting measures 16 inches high, 12.2 inches wide. Frame measures 23.7 inches high, 19.7 inches wide. Touch up visible with UV light. The majority of the painting is in good condition.
From Askart Sam Newton (b.1948) is one of the nine original members of the Highwaymen. Internationally acknowledged for his beautifully detailed Floridian seascapes and river scenes, Sam Newton is known for his remarkable gift of mixing paint to obtain some of the most vibrant colors seen in recent history. In 2004, Sam Newton was one of twenty-six artists identified as Highwaymen that were inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame (his brothers Harold Newton and Lemuel Newton were inducted as well).
