Antoine Bofill was a Catalan artist born in Barcelona in 1875. He was trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Barcelona, where he developed a style heavily influenced by the Modernista movement, which was the Catalan version of Art Nouveau. Bofill was a prolific artist, creating works in a variety of mediums, including oil paintings, watercolors, drawings, and engravings. His subjects ranged from portraits and landscapes to genre scenes and still lifes. He exhibited his works in various shows throughout his lifetime, including the Salon des Artistes Francais in Paris. Bofill's work is characterized by its vibrant colors and bold compositions. He was particularly skilled at capturing the play of light and shadow in his landscapes and still lifes. Bofill was also known for his portraits, which often depicted his sitters with a sense of intimacy and psychological insight. Unfortunately, Bofill's career was cut short by his untimely death in 1921 at the age of 46. Despite his relatively short career, he left behind a legacy as one of the most important artists of the Modernista movement in Catalonia. His works can be found in various museums and private collections throughout Europe and the United States. From Askart.com: Biography from Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions Newbury/Donnington Antoine Bofill (1875 - 1939 or 53) was born in Barcelona and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in his native city, but he was active in the Parisian art world for most of his career. Bofill is primarily known as an Animalier, the group of 19th century sculptors specializing in animal groups. Bofill experimented with different materials in his usually small scale objects, including ivory and silver. From Millon & Associes: Antoine Bofill exhibited in Spain, Germany and Austria, and France, including the Salons of the Society of French Artists from 1894 to 1910
