Scene in 15 sections. This original hand-painted scenic paper is done in the tradition of hand-blocked scenic papers. This paper was originally made in France and it is believed there were one or two studios making papers similar to hand-blocked papers. These are all entirely hand-painted. The value in the paper is in its relationship to hand-blocked scenics. The studios that accomplished these works are largely unknown but the art work speaks to the prevalence of whole room environments which were so popular at the time, including dioramas and the like which were hand-painted much like the example of the panoramic of Versailles in the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum.
