Description
Oil on Board. "Sea Veterans", 1920. Signed lower right. Titled and dated verso on label. Dimensions: 13” x 16”. Original Frame - outside dimensions - 16” x 18”.The Rockport Granite Company and the Delivery Boats in Rockport was a fascinating subject for Antonio Cirino. Rockport was Cirino’s artistic and summer retreat where he was free to concentrate on his personal art and enjoy the fellowship of serious artists. This little North Shore town was a very busy port for fisherman and industry attracting artists and art patrons alike anxious to escape the gritty urban city life. Cirino immersed himself in village life but was always fascinated with the activities of the granite industry. A bit of internet research on the company finds that to meet the growing demand for granite, Rockport Granite Company formed in 1865 and was a major granite supplier to the entire eastern seaboard until its dissolution in 1933. Rockport granite made its way down the coast via ship and into ports from Lafayette Louisiana to Cuba to Boston, New York and Philadelphia. This work is from a private RI Collection.
