Marilyn Neuhart for Alexander Girard, Seven Hand-Made Fabric Dolls

This collection of seven fabric dolls by Marilyn Neuhart for Alexander Girard was gifted to Bill and Irene Cagney by Sally O’Malley, who had a life-long association with Herman Miller. Sally’s professional roles with Herman Miller included positions as manager of their Chicago and Los Angeles showrooms, Director of Corporate Marketing Communications and ultimately events management consultant to Herman Miller, with her own company. Her affiliation with Herman Miller brought her in contact with many of the company’s leading designers. It was during the early years of her tenure at Herman Miller that she acquired these dolls from Alexander Girard. Bill and Irene worked as the graphic designers for many of Sally’s corporate and marketing communications programs and became close personal friends. Sally had the architect and model maker Takeo Itano encase the doll collection, which she proudly mounted for display in her Chicago apartment. Several of these dolls include a heart within the design of the fabric, which was Sally’s company symbol.
