A.Y. Jackson Canadians B: 1882 D: 1974. This piece, entitled - Early Spring, Quebec is a painting completed in 1936 and is part of the collection of the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa. This is a large unframed print of the original. There are a couple of small scratches on the paper - see photos. The piece is mounted on a heavy backing board. The painting depicts a rural landscape in Quebec during the early spring, with melting snow and bare trees beginning to bud. The composition is characterized by Jackson's distinctive use of bold, expressive brushstrokes and vivid colours to capture the energy and vitality of the natural world. Jackson was a member of the Group of Seven, a collective of Canadian landscape painters who were active from the 1920s to the 1930s. The group is known for its distinctive style, which emphasized the rugged beauty of Canada's wilderness and sought to capture the country's unique identity and spirit through art.
