Group of 3 College Basketball Wire Photos ft. St. John's & LSU's Pete Maravich
A group of 3 wire photographs, all measuring 8" x 10", ranging in date between 1965-1980. Two of the three depict Pistol Pete Maravich during his time at Louisiana State University and later as a Celtic, while the other shows St. John's team during a 1965 game. Throughout his extensive career, Maravich became the all-time leading NCAA Division I scorer with 3,667 points scored and an average of 44.2 points per game, although a longtime injury forced him to retire from a professional career in the NBA in 1980. Each photo features captions or associated newspaper clippings adhered to verso, original to their time with the press. All exhibit moderate wear, including creasing, docketing, and darkened markings throughout. Good condition overall.
The lot includes:
1.) St. John's Coach Joe Lapchick talking with team members during a time out, dated March 20, 1965.
2.) LSU's "Pistol" Pete Maravich making a basket during practice, dated March 17, 1970.
3.) Pete Maravich as #44 of the Boston Celtics sits on the bench during a playoff game marking his final season, dated March 8, 1980.
