Description
Collection of post-Civil War military photography including: 1.) Photograph of "The Surviving Heroes of the Battles near Santiago de Cuba, July 1, 2, 10,and 11, 1898--Ligth Battery K, 1st U.S. Artillery". Photograph 6.5" x 8.5" and is mounted on a printed title board measuring 10" x 11.75. Image shows 38 men and officers of the unit on front porch of building. Photograph by Brady of San Antonio, Texas. 2.) Photograph titled in image "Lt. Battery K, 1st U.S. Artillery, Fort Sam Houston, 1900, Photographed by E. Baba, San Antonio, Texas. Photograph 7.5" x 9.5" and is mounted on board measuring 10.25" x 12. Image shows 96 men and officers of the unit on front porch of building. Board exhibits corner damage at lower left and a flag sticker has been placed at upper left of photograph. 3.) Photograph of US cavalry unit mounting their horses on the run. Photograph measures 4.5" x 6.5" and is mounted to board measuring 7" x 9". Image shows 20 cavalry troopers in various states of mounting their horses. Image is light and exhibits poor contrast. 4.) Printed image of Spanish American War period non-commissioned officers printed on front of menu. Sheet measures 6.25" x 8.5". Image shows 14 NCO's . 5.) Photograph of Pennsylvania National Guard troops in front of tent. Photograph measures 5" x 6.5" and is mounted to board measuring 8" x 10". Image shows 13 soldiers armed with rifles. Photograph is photographer blindstamped "Myers, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. 6.) Photograph of 4 soldiers with one holding beer bottle and smoking while other 3 roll cigarettes. Soldiers are in uniform, wearing Mills belts and hats and all hold rifles. Photograph measures 4.5" x 6.5" and is mounted on 7" x 9" board. Board exhibits vertical bend that has been reinforced. 7.) Photograph of young cadets and their two leaders. Photograph shows 18 cadets (including one African-American) all holding single shot carbine-type weapons with no forearms. Image measures 4.5" x 6.5" and is mounted on 7" x 9" board. Image exhibits some slight solarization. 8.) Photograph of soldiers in camp. Photograph measures 5" x 6.5" and is mounted on 7" x 9" board. Image shows 11 soldiers in middle of camp as other soldiers and civilians mill about in the background. 9.) Photograph of 4-US soldiers in front of their tent. Soldiers have rifles with tent displaying various pieces of equipment. Photograph measures 4" x 5" and is mounted on 4.5" x 5.5" board. Photograph exhibits some surface dirt. 10.) Full standing portrait of a Spanish American War period captain wearing Mills belt with pistol and sword. Photograph measures 8" x 4.75" mounted on 8.5" x 5.25" board. 11.) Photograph of Light Battery, 1st US Artillery taken February 5, 1899. Image shows 17 members of the unit sitting on a front porch. Information is added to image in ink. Image shows 10 New York soldiers in front of tent. 13.) Full standing portrait of a Spanish American War period corporal wearing Mills belt with bayonet and holding rifle. Full standing portrait of a Spanish American War period soldier wearing great coat. Photograph measures 5.5" x 4" mounted on 8" x 6" board. Photograph taken in St. Paul, Minnesota. Board exhibits some edge chipping. 15.) Photograph of Spanish American War period cavalrymen caring for their horses. Soldiers wear white fatigue uniforms.
