Group of Josiah Wedgwood & Sons Majolica and Thomas Harwood Silver-Plated 'Mottled Ware' Table Articles
Circa 1875
In the Egyptian Revival style, comprising a cream jug, of tapering cylindrical form, with a sphinx-topped handle and lotus spout, the exterior banded with a silver strap and splashed in tortoiseshell glazes in shades of ochre, green and brown, the interior in turquoise, on a circular foot, the triple-belted silver-plated strap and the underside hallmarked by Thomas Harwood & Sons of Birmingham, England, height 4 1/2 inches; a jug with hinged cover, the triple-belted silver-plated strap hallmarked by Thomas Harwood & Sons, Birmingham, England, illegible impressed date code and uppercase Wedgwood mark, of tapering cylindrical form, with a sphinx-topped handle and pharaoh mask spout, the exterior banded with a silver strap and splashed in 'Mottled Ware' tortoiseshell glazes in shades of ochre, green and brown, the interior in turquoise, on a circular foot, height 9 3/4 inches; and a crumb tray, circa 1875, the silver-plated tray hallmarked by Thomas Harwood & Sons of Sheffield, England, the trapezoidal blade embossed down one side with stylized acanthus leaves, the silver strap banded handle with 'Mottled Ware' tortoiseshell glazes in shades of ochre, green and brown with sphinx-topped handle terminal, length 12 inches; Together with a Joseph Holdcroft Tortoise-Shell Ground Mustache Cup. Circa 1880, of tapering cylindrical form with turquoise interior and brown lip guard, yellow line rim, impressed uppercase mark and blue painted 5, height 4 inches.
