Description
**Originally Listed At $400**
Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Paracas culture, ca. 100 BCE. An early polychrome human effigy vessel presenting an intriguing countenance comprised of recessed almond-shaped eyes that probably held stone or shell inlays surrounded by incised and painted (red and yellow ochre) stylized geometric motifs - perhaps to represent face paint or tattoo marks, a protruding nose, slightly parted lips, and pierced ears that most likely held ornaments. Below the head is a nicely burnished egg-shaped red body sitting on a flat base; above is a squat cylindrical neck. Size: 4.8" W x 6.4" H (12.2 cm x 16.3 cm)
Provenance: private South Carolina, USA collection; ex-Artemis Gallery; ex-private Hawaii, USA collection
