North America, Southwest United States, Rio Grande Pueblo peoples, Keres people, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. Signed "M. Brown" with title "Planter Kachina" on underside of base. A delightful wood Keresan kachina doll representing a type of Corn Planter or Koroasta kachina wearing a green case mask adorned with rabbit fur and bird plumage, as well as a sash, skirt, leggings, belt, bangles, and armbands of animal hide and velvet. Strands of lead alloy beads fall embellish the figure's chest as he grasps a husk of corn in one hand and a stick for planting in the other. Squash-shaped beads additionally decorate each arm as his stylized visage presents a triangular mouth, rectangular eyes, and vertical streaks of warrior paint. Size: 7" W x 11.8" H (17.8 cm x 30 cm)
