Description
China, 19th century / possibly earlier, the bronze figure of Guanyin - Bodhisattva Goddess of Compassion, Kindness & Mercy, shown wearing a cowled robe decorated overall with auspicious six-pointed celestial star incised motifs. Her hair worn in high chignon above her face showing a serene expression, her right hand held in a blessing gesture while supporting a vessel containing the Elixir of Compassion in her left hand. Raised upon a conforming lotus-shaped base inscribed with characters verso, the interior of the base showing an impressed spherical seal and exhibiting a fine old patina overall. Height, 11.75”.
