German Silver Tankard with coins and allegories : Berlin, 2nd half of the 17th century. Probably Georg Konrad Kressel (master ca. 1699 - after 1729). Cylindrical body over a domed foot, C-shaped handle with armorial shield as finial, domed lid with two-part volute presser; wall with three engraved cartouches containing allegorical figures, titled ''Nonvi'' (literally: Non-Violence), ''Patientia'' (Patience) and ''Solertia'' (Acumen); on the foot zone, on the lid and in the base 15 embedded coins (among others 3-Groescher Poland, Sigismund III., around 1600, a thaler Tyrol, Leopold V., 1630, a thaler Christian IIII. of Norway and Denmark, 1628). Silver with partial gilding. On the handle the inspection mark bear and unclear maker's mark ''CK...''. H. 16 cm; 488 g. - Small coins partly heavily rubbed. - The allegorical representations go back to the Strasbourg engraver Etienne Delaune, who originally designed them as the continents of Africa, Europe and Asia, which in turn were taken over by the French pewterer Francois Briot by omitting some of the attributes and further used by other pewterers and goldsmiths. // Muenzhumpen mit Allegorien : Berlin, 2. Ueber gewoelbtem Fuss zylindrischer Korpus, C-Henkel mit Wappenschild als Abschluss, gewoelbter Deckel mit zweigeteiltem Volutendruecker; Wandung mit drei gravierten Kartuschen, darin allegorische Figuren, betitelt "Nonvi" (woertlich: Nicht-Gewalt), "Patientia" (Geduld) und "Solertia" (Scharfsinn); an der Fusszone, am Deckel und im Boden 15 eingelassene Muenzen (u.a. 3-Groescher Polen, Sigismund III., um 1600, ein Taler Tirol, Leopold V., 1630, ein Taler Christian IIII. von Norwegen und Daenemark, 1628). Silber mit Teilvergoldung. Beim Henkel Beschauzeichen Baer und undeutl. Meistermarke "CK...". H. 16 cm; 488 g. - Kleine Muenzen teils stark berieben. - Die allegorischen Darstellungen gehen auf den in Strassburg taetigen Stecher Etienne Delaune zurueck, der sie urspruenglich als Kontinente Afrika, Europa und Asia entwarf, die wiederum von dem franzoesischen Zinngiesser Francois Briot durch Weglassen einiger Attribute uebernommen und durch weitere Zinngiesser und Goldschmiede weiterverwendet wurden.
