"A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" follows a man named Hank Morgan, a 19th century engineer who is mysteriously transported back in time to the court of King Arthur in the 6th century. Hank, a practical and rational man, uses his knowledge of technology and science to try to improve the lives of the people in Camelot, but faces resistance from the superstitious and backward society. As he navigates this strange world, he challenges the romanticized notions of chivalry and exposes the flaws of feudalism. Through humor and irony, Twain critiques the past and present, and questions the nature of progress and human nature.
Innocents Abroad is a travelogue which follows Twain and a group of American travelers as they journey through Europe and the Holy Land on a steamship tour. Throughout the book, Twain's humorous and satirical observations on the cultural differences between Americans and Europeans, as well as his critiques of the tourist industry, are interwoven with descriptions of historical landmarks and monuments. The book was a huge success upon its publication and helped establish Twain's reputation as a humorist and writer.
