Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Huari (Wari), ca. 800 CE. A camelid bone figural carving depicting a standing male figure wearing a wide bowl shaped headdress. The patterning of the hat and facial details or the figure are well carved - one arm is held to his side and the other is extended. Bone trays and other implements were carved for use in preparing hallucinogenic drugs, and decorated with anthropromorphic and zoomorphic finials such as this. A rare example with intricate details! Size: 1.6" L x 0.9" W (4.1 cm x 2.3 cm); 3.5" H (8.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Danish collection, acquired in the early 1970s, collection #K68 & K398 P-CM
