Gabon or Equatorial Guinea. Wood carved figure holding small cup in front close to body, extended navel, legs mostly gone, with nicely rendered facial features and coiffure.Size: 6-1/2 inches (16.5cm) + custom wood base. Ethnologists believe figures such as these were boiled in a soup for medicinal purposes which explains the varied patina. Provenance: Native Auctions, January 2016, Lot #48.; ex.
