This is a very fine old Fang Byeri cult idol from Gabon, Africa. Carved wood with a classical aesthetic and shown holding an offering vessel. The Fang peoples of Gabon believed that ancestral relics held great spiritual power. Byeri was a Fang association devoted to the veneration of lineage ancestors and founders, leaders, and fertile women who made significant contributions to society during their lifetime.Measures approx 20 inches tall on wooden base.

Very well weathered, dry old wood, minor losses.
