Description
Argentinae (i.e Strassburg], Lazarus Zetzner, 1598
Fidora: “This edition, which was very influential - the young Leibniz, for instance, acquainted himself with Llull through this anthology-, contains several works by Llull himself as well as those Renaissance commentaries on his works by Agrippa of Netteshein, Giordano Bruno.” Blum: “In 1598 … the printer Lazarus Zetzner in Strasburg, published a great collection of the works by Raymond Lull and the most significant commentaries on Lullism, among them also some treatises by Bruno. Since then, Bruno's mnemonics was a basic component of all attempts made in the seventeenth century to set up a universal science on the basis of a theory of combinations interpreted in terms of Neo-Platonism. It was also Leibniz who was one of the first to assume similarities between Bruno's theory of the infinite and the Cartesian theory of vortices in an undetermined and infinite universe; Leibniz had the opportunity to read these treatises in his capacity as librarian of the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel". Alexander Fidora, Peirce's Account of the Categories and Ramon Llull, 2007, p 181; Paul Richard Blum, Giordano Bruno: An Introduction, 2012, p. 110; Silvestrini-Firpo, Bibl. di Giordano Bruno, n. 1; Adams, n. 1694; Duveen, p. 371; Honeyman, n. 2068; Bolton, I, 1001; Dorbon, n. 2793; Menendez y Pelayo, Historia de los eterodoxos españoles, I, p. 517, n. 1.

Rare first edition. Important collection of the most accredited works of Lull, whose four treatises of Bruno are added and one of Agrippa von Nettesheim.Fidora: “From another of Pierce's Lists we know that he possessed an important collection of Lullian and Lullist texts, namely the Renaissance edition by the famous Strasbourg editor Lazarus Zetzner: "Raymundi Lulli Opera ea quae ad adinventam ab ipso Artem universalem. pertinent" (printed first in 1598, then 1609, 1617 and, by his heirs, in 1651). This edition, which was very influential - the young Leibniz, for instance, acquainted himself with Llull through this anthology-, contains several works by Llull himself as well as those Renaissance commentaries on his works by Agrippa of Netteshein, Giordano Bruno.” Duodecim principia Philosophiae Lullianae; IV. Dialectica seu Logica; V. Rethorica; VI. Ars Magna.
Follow the texts of the Interpretes of the Lullian philosophy, ie the 4 treatises by Giordano Bruno and the important comment by Agrippa: VII. De Lulliano specierum Poll; VIII. De lamp combinatorial Lulliana; IX. De progressu logicae venationis; X De lamps hunting logicorum; Agrippa von Nettesheim, XI. Commentaria on Ars Brevis Lulliana. In the end another work of Lull, XII. Articuli fidei. The four texts of Giordano Bruno were included for the first time in this edition, and then republished in subsequent ones without ever being mentioned in the title pages of the securities, perhaps to avoid the censure of the Catholic countries.
