Description
Guerrero, Mexico, Ca. 400 B.C. Probably Olmec. A thick carved mask having a long nose, well-defined brow and a pecked, concave surface. Simple lug type ears and a perforation at the top for attachment. Not likely worn on the face, but rather as decoration for a belt, pectorals, or headdress. These masks were generally depictions of rulers or performers. Original polished surface with natural surface pitting and inclusions. Very good condition.
