Description

Item/Description: The set consists of five lidded blue and white 17th Century porcelain jars sold by Marchant of London, founded in 1925 by Samuel Sydney Marchant (1897-1975). Marchant specializes in Imperial Chinese Ming and Qing porcelains, jades, cloisonne, pottery and works of art. According to the identifying documentation the pieces were part of the Hatcher Collection. Previously sold at auction, Christie's Amsterdam.

Graduating in size these exquisite lidded containers are made of fine porcelain with blue transfer decoration of floral motifs. The largest jar with a phoenix motif appears to be for tea or incense as it has a fenestrated plate within. Silk-lined footed wooden presentation box.

Material: Porcelain, wood

Dimensions Range Porcelain: Width: 3 1/2"- 1 1/2"; Height: 1 3/4" -1 1/4". Dimensions Box: Length: 14 1/2"; Height: 4 1/4"; Depth: 6".

Condition: Good. Surface use and age wear includes chips, scratches, scuffs, evidence of repaired (glued) crack across sunflower lid surface (does not extend through and through), staining.

Age: 17th Century (porcelain). Box: 20th Century
