Artist: Hokusai Katsushika (1760-1849) Title: "Waterfall in Yoshino" Medium: Woodblock print Format: Vertical Size: Oban (14.5x10in) Series: A Tour of Waterfalls Province: Japan-Tokyo Paper Type: Washi rice paper Special Notes on The Print: This series was originally Published by Eijudo in the mid 1830's. The keyblocks were printed in blue. Each was signed by the artist "Zen Hokusai Iitsu" The placement of the cartouches and seals is indicated in the notes which follow. YOSHITSUNE WATERFALL This print is probably the most famous design in the series. It shows a waterfall descending in a torrent, and at the base of the first stage two man are shown washing a horse. It is based on an old legend, according to which Yoshitsune lived for some time in refuge in the mountains at Yoshino. The title cartouche is at the top left with the artist signature to the right. At thew bottom right the circular Kiwame seal and square seal of publisher.
Condition
The print itself is a very good color impression and has never been framed excellent overall with no issues to report.
