Description
French Bronze and Marble Mantel Clock, late 19th c., with a gilt bronze seated figure of "knowledge" over an enamel dial time and strike clock, painted with a retailer's name "Eugene Marchand Aine a Bordeaux," on a bronze mounted black marble plinth, on scrolled bronze leaf form legs, H.- 22 1/2 in., W.- 12 1/2 in., D.- 5 in.
Condition
The approximate weight is 35 to 40 pounds. The H.- 22 1/14 in., W.- 11 ½ in., D.- 6 in. There is oxidation and corrosion across the metal surfaces. There are some hairline cracks to the bottom of the dial. There are small nicks to the edge of the marble at the back. The rear window to cover the movement is missing. A bell and weights appear to be missing. We are unable to test this clock for working order. Wear is consistent with age. This is a handsome piece.
