Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A fine gathering of four cast-bronze items used either as amulets or quillons (cross guards) fitted on the top of the tang of a dagger blade. The first quillon has a circular opening with a frilled lower section and a severed phallus. Second is a curved quillon with a faint orange hue and a slender phallus. Third is a darker amulet with no socketing hole and a thick phallus surmounted by a rounded head. The largest amulet features a solid body, a frilled base, and a lengthy, slender phallus. Size of largest (thin phallus): 2" L x 0.8" W (5.1 cm x 2 cm)

Condition
Repair to lower body of largest amulet with light adhesive residue along break line; remaining three amulets are intact and very good. All items have softening to finer details and light encrustations. Light earthen deposits and nice patina throughout.
