A pair of Chinese yellow-ground libation cups
Republic period
Featuring three-dimensional, individually shaped beasts applied to the body, and a large beast-form handle with sprawling pink-glazed appendages. Also with lingzhi and wave motifs. With four-character marks to undersides; sold with associated wooden stands. (2).
H: 3 1/4, W: 4 5/8, D: 2 5/8 in.
H: 8.25, W: 11.75, D: 6.67 cm.
Provenance: Estate of Yip Hon (1904-1997). Nicknamed Kwai Wong (translated as Ghost King), Yip Hon was a gambling tycoon in South China. He a amassed great wealth in the casinos there, through his technique of listening dice, eventually opening his own casino.
