A Chinese famille rose brush pot
signed Bi Botao (Chinese, 1886-1961)
Featuring a rooster crowing on top of a rock surrounded by flowers. With an inscription, signature, and one seal to the body; six-character mark to underside.
H: 6 1/8, Dia: 2 in.
H: 15.56, Dia: 5.08 cm.
Provenance: Estate of Yip Hon (1904-1997). Nicknamed Kwai Wong (translated as Ghost King), Yip Hon was a gambling tycoon in South China. He a amassed great wealth in the casinos there, through his technique of listening dice, eventually opening his own casino.
