Confederate States of America 1-Day Pass with Access to Winchester Road
A Confederate one-day pass for a soldier in Virginia. 1p, measuring 7.75" x 2.75", Martinsburg, Virginia, dated May 18, 1861. The pass, No. 91, is made out to James Clendening, who was granted access to Winchester Road for one day. Includes a physical description of Clendening: 38 years old, 6ft tall, fair, grey eyes, and brown hair. On verso is a printed 1864 Oath of Allegiance to the United States. Signed by the Captain and Provost Marshal. With flattened folds, heavy foxing and dampstaining, and minor chipping at the corners.
