Bamboo walking stick, Kanak people, New Caledonia, 19th-early 20th century.
Engraved with several registers of blackened etched designs that alternate between geometric patterns, natural motifs, scenes of everyday life and, at its bottom, several lines of written script.
Lustrous patina as evidence of age and long use.
Stick measures 36"h. When on its custom base it measures 36.5"h x 2.75"w x 2.75"d.
