AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR HISTORICAL PRINTS, LOT OF TWO, copper-plate engraving, one hand colored, The Memorable Engagement of Captn. Pearson of the Serapis, with Paul Jones of the Bon Homme Richard & his Squadron, Sep. 23 1779, Richard Paton, artist, and James Fittler and Daniel Lerpiniere engravers. London: John Boydell, 1781. 19" x 24" and 19 3/4" x 23 3/4".
Provenance: Deaccessioned by the Valentine Museum, Richmond, VA to benefit collections care, preservation, and future acquisitions.
Catalogue Note: The present print is considered the finest wartime print of an American warship in battle. It was during this engagement that John Paul Jones uttered his famous "Surrender be damned, I have not yet begun to fight".

Good overall condition, each with some small losses and short tears, primarily only affecting the margins, uncolored example with light vertical crease.
