The publisher's logo was off-center when printed (First State), so all but a handful of copies have a cancel (replacement) title page inserted (Second State). This copy has the cancel title page with a centered logo. Compiled by Whitman's literary executor, Richard Maurice Bucke, The Wound Dresser contains his noted poem "The Dresser" (1865), three newspaper columns "The Great Army of the Wounded" printed in the New York Times in 1863, "Life among Fifty Thousand Soldiers" printed in the Brooklyn Eagle in 1863, and "Hospital Visits" printed in the New York Times in 1863, followed by Whitman's letters to his mother during the Civil War in 1862-3 and 1864.
