Collection of Items From Pauline Kohlsaat Palmer and Palmer Family, Early 20th Century

Two Travelling Vanities (One by Asprey), One Carriage Case, Cartier Cigarette Case, Spalding and Gorham Compact, Three Monogrammed Pillow Cases, Personal Letters, Two Journals/Diaries, and Holabird & Roche Blueprints

THE FIRST
Aspery Vanity Case in green leather hard shell travelling vanity set with a cream lining made with smaller compartments to hold the silver cases, brushes, and glass viles. Ten silver pieces total. Each of the items in this case (minus one perfume) is stamped with the initials "P.K" (Pauline Kohlsaat) or "P.P" (Pauline Palmer) and (Pauline Kohlsatt Palmer)

The case and most interior pieces were made by and are stamped with the name "Asprey" and the the silver marks denoting "made in England", 1905.

The case comes with a black fabric cover with buttons that are dated to ""Pat. Feb 7 1903". The exterior case is brittle with tears.

While most of the items on the inside are marked with "Asprey" and they fit nicely into the interior comparments, the case does not feature a label.

Additional Vanity Pieces Include
Two bronze tone makeup compacts with the initials "P.P.K" one compacts is marked "Henriette / Made in USA"

Perfume tilt of Mijets Of Coty / Jasmine De Corse Paris

THE SECOND
A cigarette case that features the initials "PP", marked "Cartier / Sterling"

THE THIRD
A small make-up holder that features the initials "PP", marked "Spalding and Gorham / Sterling Silver 14k"

THE FOURTH
A silver matchbook holder that is engraved "PP" with a preserved matchbook from "The Pump Room / Ambassador East Hotel Chicago". There is an inscription on the interior of the flap that reads "B.P. - W.C.C./ 11-5-38"

THE FIFTH
The larger of the two cases:
Hard black leather case with a blue moire lining made with interior compartments for the glass and silver pieces. All but one of the interior compartments is filled with a glass, silver, or other metal embossed items, minus one compartment on the right. All items are marked with "PP" inside a rectangle. There are two mirrors, two brushes, a small box, and glass and silver viles. The interior holds 14 separate pieces.

THE SIXTH
A black carriage case that contains multiple removable drawers and the interior is completely covered with printed fabric. The exterior is marked with the initials “PP”

THE SEVENTH
A letter box that belonged to to Pauline Kohlsaat Palmer with letters written by her / addressed to her and her daugter Pauline Wood. The box has more than 175 letters, postcards, and personal notes dating from the 1920-40s. The letters discuss travels and various stages of life.

The box also contains a photo badge of Pauline Palmer dated Febuary 15, 1945 and two gold-tone medallions in the shape of the Palmer House Hotel. Two journals are also included that were found with the box, one with "My Trip Abroad" on the cover and the other reads "Records", both date to the early 20th century. While it is not clear who wrote the journals they come from the Palmer family collection and were found with the other materials in this lot.

THE EIGHTH
Three white linen pillows cases with the initials "PP" (Pauline Palmer) trimmed with a white linen band with fagoting.

THE NINETH
A collection of nine blueprints from architects Holabird & Roche / Andrew Jaques & Rantoul and various other unsigned blueprints that map out plans for family homes, apartments, and The Palmer House Hotel.

Condition
Condition:
THE FIRST
The overall condition is fair, there is tarnish on all of the silver. The leather top handle has worn down and detached from the case.
THE SECOND
The overall condition is fair with some light surface scratches and chips on the corners of the case.
THE THIRD
The overall condition is good with some surface scratches.
THE FOURTH
The overall condition is fair with tarnish and a slight bend in the metal.
THE FIFTH
The overall condition is fair with wear on many of the interior compartments.
THE SIXTH
The overall condition is fair, the handle and key are missing from the case. Tarnish to all of the silver, and the snaps show signs of age and wear.
THE SEVENTH
The overall condition is very good, the letters were kept in a cardboard box. Many of the letters remain unopened.
THE EIGHTH
The overall condition is good, there is a small tear on one of the cases at the corner and a small area of repair on one case.
THE NINETH
The overall condition is good with some minor tears and creases.
