Description
Measurements: Width: 19.8 cm, Height: 42.2 cm
Chinese Blue and White Dragon Phoenix Porcelain Garlic Vase. Potted in garlic bottle vase, bulbous lower belly, thick, with rounded shoulder, long cylindrical neck, with shrink on the neck middle to enlarge onion head shape, with slight short mouth rim, raised on short small round, with slight concaved foot base. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in white base color which contrast against blue color, depicted of flying phoenix beside imperial five claws dragon flying careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves. Since the dragon and the phoenix usually serve as auspicious symbols, any reported sightings of a dragon or phoenix were considered extremely auspicious, heralding a glorious period of peace and prosperity for the people and the country. This is reflected in the Chinese saying, When the dragon soars and the phoenix dances, the people will enjoy happiness for years, bringing peace and tranquility to all under heaven.
