Description
Handmade woven Civil War Confederate theme cockade, woven into the shape of a palmetto tree. Made by June Murray Wells from actual South Carolina palmetto fronds and sea oats. 3 3/8" L X 3" W displayed under glass with a 4" X 6" woven wooden standing frame with 7" X 9" outer dimensions. A descriptive card attached to the back. These style of cockades were once worn by soldiers & civilians alike, worn by Charlestonians to symbolize their defiance of the Union at the Secession Convention in December of 1860 & worn throughout the South as emblems of sectional solidarity.
