Description
John Quincy Adams: Thread Box. Issued in 1828, this highly-colorful thread box touts John Quincy Adams as the "People's Choice". These desirable 3-dimensional campaign items come in a variety of shapes, sizes and designs. The more desirable ones are covered, like this one, in rainbow-colored paper and gold trim. This one is unusual in that it has tapered walls. It measures 5" x 3 1/2" x 2". The pincushion lid originally had a green wreath and red rose stenciled decoration (theorem-style), which has worn away. The orange slogan is worn, but legible. The inside of the box contains an engraving of Adams under glass, under the lid. The lid is detached, as usual, as are the two silk ribbons used to hold the lid in place. Surprisingly, there is very little wear to the box itself. Overall, the condition is way above average.
