Description
An 18th century Yongzheng Chinese Canton enamel (Famille Jaune) large form tripod ritual offering or censer bowl having three legs each in the form of a stylized elephant head supporting a large wide bowl with intricate hand painted designs throughout depicting various Chinese flower, bird, and butterfly images. The interior has three panels surrounding a center round panel. One panel depicts two men on oxen fording a river, a Mandarin meeting with two peasants in a field, a lotus floral display and other flowers with ducks and butterflies, and a center panel depicting two official parties or scholars meeting. The bowl has two raised lion head ring handles on each side. The metal rim is exposed. From a private collection in Atlanta, GA purchased in the late 80's early 90's from a prominent antique store in Atlanta, GA. High resolution images available upon request.
Condition
Very good condition commensurate with age. Enamel shows many areas of craquelure and some areas of fading and a few small areas of loss along the edge of the bowl rim. The tripod base is secure and not separating. The rings show some bends in them possibly due to being pulled while handling.
